Privacy, Data Use, and Technology Law Practice

Areas of Practice

Privacy and Data Protection

I advise on privacy laws across sectors - technology, ad tech, e-commerce, healthcare, telecommunications, financial services, and others. I have been working on EU privacy issues since before GDPR and have deep knowledge of how US companies can manage US and EU data protection law challenges. I have worked on multiple CPPA/CPRA projects, and I help my clients face new challenges raised by all of the new U.S. privacy laws. I have been granted the Fellow in Information Privacy (FIP) designation by the IAPP as well as the CIPP/US, CIPP/EU, and CIPT certifications. Transactions - Procurement and Sales

Companies increasingly want to utilize data in novel ways. It can be difficult to know what rights a company may have to particular types of data because of the complex ways that data can flow from its collection point to the company. I help companies sort through these complexities so that they can understand risks and responsibilities and make prudent decisions.

Providing legal support for technology products requires more than putting the right words into data protection agreements (DPAs), SaaS contracts, and other commercial agreements. Product functionality, roadmaps, and supporting technologies must be understood. Because of my experience with technology product development, I can communicate with product managers and engineers, and then identify and sift facts to enable product success as well as appropriate risk management.

Contracting is often unnecessarily protracted on both the procurement and sales side. But negotiating good contracts is vital to company success. Because of my deep experience in business process and contracting cycles, I can cut through frustrating roadblocks that arise - on the buy and the sell side - and get deals done.
